This auction is for collection of electronic components that is used to make an Atari Punk Console (Stepped Tone Generator Synthesizer originally developed by „Forrest Mims Stepped Tone Generator“).). Auction is for electronic components shown in the photo ONLY, No other items are included in this auction. Mounting hardware is included for Potentiometers, 1/4″ jack, LED mounts and knobs. All electronics items are new. Great for circuit bending, incorporating into circuit bent instrument or stand alone synth project.
You will need hookup wire, basic hand tools and basic soldering skills to use these components for your project, these items are NOT included.
*** Basic Instructions and Diagram/Schematic are included with kit.
Makes a GREAT and unique Gift for your DIY’er, electronics hobbyist, MAKE magazine fan, lo-fi synth enthusiast.
Description of kit/components in auction: 20 pieces included + extras
NOTE: All mounting hardware is included on potentiometers, switch, 1/4″ jack, LED mount.
1– PCB board – Printed Circuit Board: DIP-1 board for IC Holder, 556 IC chip and other components. The design of this board specifically for IC chips allows easier hookup of connections to chip pins than standard board. 4 solder pads are available per chip pin (after the IC holder is soldered to the board), can also jumper to other grouped solder pads for more connections.
1 – 556 IC Timer Chip – Core of Atari Punk Console, this is a dual 555 timer chip (High Quality chip made by Texas Instruments) to create tones
1 – 14 pin IC socket – To mount 556 timer chip on. Safer for chip to solder this socket to PCB first then insert chip.
2 – Timing Capacitors – Used with the variable resistors (potentiometers) for frequency oscillator and square wave output duration. This combination creates the stepped tones of the Atari Punk Console
2 – High Quality Potentiometers– Used for adjusting timing pulses/pitch, NOTE: The current pots have solder lugs to make soldering easier and are slightly different than the ones in the photo.
1 – Volume Potentiometer with ON/OFF switch– Used for adjusting volume for ¼” output jack/speakers and to turn the APC on and off from the volume potentiometer’s built in switch.
1 – Coupling Capacitor – Used with Volume Potentiometer for output to 1/4” output jack
2 – Matching Knobs with indicator and included set screws – For timing/pitch potentiometers. Please note: Knob may vary from photo depending on stock on hand.
1 – Volume Knob – For Volume Potentiometer. Please note: Knob may vary from photo depending on stock on hand.
2 – LEDs (Size T 3/4 / 5mm) 1 Green and 1 RGB (Red/Green/Blue color fading/flashing). Can be used for power indicator light and output signal follower (flash to the signal output/timing pulses)
2 – Limiting Resistors for LEDs.Used to limit input current to the LEDs.
1 – Chrome LED mount/holder for T 3/4 / 5mm LED. Panel mount hardware for included LEDs (or your own LEDs)
1 – Timing Resistor – For discharge/threshold pins 1 and 2 (for timing capacitor)
1 – 1/4″ Output Jack. – High Quality, 4 pin with easy solder lugs. Used to accept a standard TRS type audio plug for your APC to run through an amp, speakers, effects processor or recording samples to your computer or Casio SK-1 🙂
1 – 9V Battery Holder with leads– . For 9V battery hookup. 9V battery is NOT included in the kit, only the holder, buyer must supply battery for power.
1 – Light Sensitive CDS Cell – Additional component that can optionally be usedfor varying pitch or volume with amount of light. Can be used to create Theremin type effecst.
2 – Small Trimmer Potentiometers – Can be used with timing/pitch potentiometers to fine tune pitch knob (prevents resistance from going to zero)or with LEDs to fine tune current flow (brightness of LED)
1 – packet of reference material (not shown in photo)- List, markings and descriptions of components, resistor chart (for 4-band and 5 band resistors) and capacitor chart with values and corresponding markings
